Paul works with financial institutions in the banking, insurance and fintech sectors across sub-Saharan Africa to design and implement transformative strategies that enable them to reach underserved markets. Under Paul’s direction, FSD Africa creates awareness around opportunities in targeting underserved market segments and provides strategic support to financial institutions on how to get into these markets. He supports the design, implementation and funding of innovative solutions with financial institutions to reach new markets and disseminating learnings as case studies to demonstrate how these markets can be viable and sustainable.
Paul joined FSD Africa after a 21-year career in the African banking sector. He held the role of Deputy Managing Director at Housing Finance Bank Uganda where he led its transformation from a mortgage house into a commercial bank. Prior to that he held positions of Executive Director – Consumer Banking and Chief Operating Officer at DFCU Bank Uganda. He also held executive management roles in Retail Banking, Bank Operations and Information Technology at Stanbic Bank (Uganda) and Standard bank of South Africa. Paul has a Bachelors of Commerce from Makerere University, Kampala, as well as executive development certification at the Wharton School, INSEAD, Ashridge Business School and the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg. He is also a certified associate Executive Coach with the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK).
