FSD Africa and the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA), in collaboration with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, warmly invite you to join this event where we will be discussing the importance of natural capital to South Africa’s financial sector and associated risks & opportunities. This event is part of a series of roadshows that ANCA is hosting across the continent in the lead-up to COP27, that will bring together regulators, influential businesses, major financial institutions and policymakers.

FSD Africa recently launched ANCA, with global management consultancy Oliver Wyman acting as execution and knowledge partner, to lead African institutional engagement on natural capital management. ANCA is an African-led multi-stakeholder forum of leading institutions from the private and public sectors, advocating for nature-positive outcomes for Africa. With the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as its core partner, ANCA was launched with an initial founding membership of 13 prominent organisations, which include major South African bankers and insurers.

ANCA’s purpose is to:

  • Facilitate an African voice in the ongoing development of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework, through actively piloting it with African financial institutions;
  • Encourage policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, and other companies to develop approaches to manage nature-related risks and opportunities;
  • Collectively share information, learnings, and knowledge on best practices around nature-related risks and opportunities.

At this event, you will have the opportunity to hear from a variety of industry experts on nature-related financial risk management. We will also be highlighting the results of a new landmark report that demonstrates the materiality of nature-related risks & opportunities in Africa, along with the initial results of a series of pilot programmes trialling the emerging TNFD framework.

Key speakers:

  • Leila Fourie – CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
  • Tony Goldner – Executive Director, Taskforce for Nature Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)
  • Madeleine Ronquest – Head of Environmental and Social Risk Management, FirstRand Group
