Environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria are a set of standards that together provide a framework for understanding the impact and risks of an organisation beyond its financial performance.

Working together with Genesis Analytics, we undertook an assessment of ESG integration in the insurance industry in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria as a starting point to understanding ESG and its importance to the insurance industry in more detail.

We are holding this webinar to discuss some of the limitations and critiques of ESG and present some potential approaches to integrating ESG considerations in insurance supervision and regulation, including toolkits, to help African insurance regulators integrate ESG into insurance sector supervision. We also aim to create awareness of ESG and its importance in insurance supervision and to present the current assessments.
