Manager, Sustainable Insurance

Iara is a sustainability-oriented insurance professional with over 12 years of experience across African markets, combining underwriting and portfolio strategy expertise with the capability to translate global frameworks into practical implementation roadmaps for insurers. Previously, she served as the Africa Implementation Officer for the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), where she built awareness, provided technical advisory on sustainability-related risks, and supported disclosure and implementation across the region.

Early in her career, she collaborated on gender-responsive microinsurance and subsidised premium schemes that improve protection for vulnerable women in Mozambique. She sits on the Steering Committee of the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance (NDSI) and co-chairs its Learning & Development Subcommittee, advancing regional capabilities and partnerships.

Iara holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Saad Dahlab University in Algeria. She is a chartered insurer recognised by the CII UK. She also holds certificates from the University of Oxford’s “Introduction to Sustainable Finance” and the Frankfurt School’s “Risk Management” and “Sustainable Finance”.
