Alphonce Mwangi

Alphonce has 7 years’ experience working in investment banking and investment management, originating and executing highly structured, and “difficult” marquee transactions across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Prior to joining FSD Africa, Alphonce was a Corporate Finance Analyst at Genghis Capital Investment Bank, where he successfully led various DCM and advisory mandates in the financial services, agriculture, and real estate sectors. Before that, he worked at NIC Capital Investment Bank as an Equity Research Analyst covering energy and TMT sectors and fixed income; and as a Corporate Finance Analyst executing DCM, ECM, and M&A mandates.

Alphonce holds a Bachelor of Real Estate degree from the University of Nairobi, a Certified Public Accountant (K) qualification, passed the CFA level I exam, and currently pursuing his MBA at the United States International University- Africa.

Keziah Kibata

Keziah is passionate about small businesses and looks forward to contributing to the building of robust, efficient and inclusive financial markets that provide access to finance to small businesses.

Keziah has worked as an Investment Manager at Encomm Limited, an investment company with interests in energy, air cargo, marine fishing and mining industries, since 2019. The focus of her role was monitoring the implementation of the strategy for growth agreed upon between the firm and the portfolio companies and coordination of approval of any changes to the strategy by the firms management, preparation of financial forecasts and budgets, financial process management and reporting to the firms management on a quarterly basis, supporting portfolio companies in supplementary money raises and operations review for portfolio companies in order to formalize their operations and ensure corporate governance standards are adhered to.

Prior to this, Keziah worked as an investment manager at VenAfrica Capital where she was involved in setting up, building an investment pipeline and raising funds for a new investment vehicle as well as structuring a microfinance fund. She has worked in various roles in real estate development and investment, including as a Development Manager and Development Executive at Housing Finance Development and Investment (HFDI) and Acorn Group. She started her career as a financial analyst at a boutique investment advisory firm where she was involved in transactions in agribusiness within East Africa.

Keziah has a degree in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and is pursuing the CFA designation.

May Yego

May has over eight years experience in corporate & structured finance, impact investing, fund & portfolio management and investment advisory.

Prior to joining FSD Africa, May was part of the AlphaMundi Group Investment team where she worked on the full investment cycle from origination, due diligence, deal structuring, term negotiation, legal contracting as well as portfolio monitoring. Previously, May was at I-DEV International, leading strategy and investment (buy-side and sell-side transactions) advisory engagements for Sub-Saharan African businesses. Earlier in her career, May worked as a Corporate Finance Analyst for Burbidge Capital, where she participated in both private and public fundraising transaction structuring various financial instruments including debt, mezzanine, quasi-equity and equity. May holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi, a Certified Public Accountant (K) qualification, completed CFA level I and currently finalizing her MBA at Strathmore Business School.

In her role at FSD Africa, she is involved in the execution of the investment process, responsible for investee monitoring and reporting, as well as engaging with the investee technical assistance program execution and monitoring.

Judith Nekesa

Judith is responsible for providing risk leadership in her role at FSD Africa Investments, which involves conducting risk analysis on potential investment opportunities, risk reviews of ongoing investments, risk reporting and monitoring among other risk-related assignments.

Prior to joining FSD Africa, Judith was the Group Risk Manager at Centum Investment Company Plc. She has built her career in risk management within the financial sector having worked in insurance, investments and finance. Judith is a champion for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), an integrated approach to risk management that links with strategy and performance. She aspires to make a positive impact to businesses by providing best-practice ERM expertise to firms within the financial sector.

Judith earned an MSc. degree in Actuarial Management from Cass Business School (City, University of London). She also holds a BSc. (First Class Honours) degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi. She is a Certified Enterprise Risk Manager with IABFM and is currently pursuing a dual actuarial certification, FIA and CERA, from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK).

Passionate about economic and leadership development within Africa, Judith has participated in various targeted initiatives such as mentorship of young entrepreneurs. She is also an alumna of the Africa Leadership Xcelerator Program (2019).

During her free time, you will most likely find her reading a book, practising yoga, travelling, listening to music, or spending quality time with her loved ones. She currently resides in Nairobi.

Stephen Macharia

Stephen K. Macharia is the Principal, Investments at FSD Africa Investments (FSDAi), the investing arm of FSD Africa.Stephen has more than 15 years of principle investing experience spanning asset management; venture capital, private equity and impact investing. He’s responsible for investment execution across the investment process, from origination to exit.

He’s been involved in numerous private equity transactions on the continent with a cumulative deal value of over USD 500 million. Stephen started out his career in the Alternatives space as an analyst in the venture capital space and has since worked across mid-market PE on both sides as a GP and LP. Stephen sits on numerous Advisory committee positions as well as holding Board director positions for FSDAi’s portfolio.

Stephen holds a joint master’s degree in business administration from Strathmore Business School & IESE Business School and a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science.

Beatrice Mubia

Beatrice is an investment professional who is passionate about the transformative role finance can play in promoting economic and social development in Africa.

Prior to joining FSD Africa Investments, Beatrice was an Associate Director in KPMG East Africa’s Deal Advisory practice where she gained experience in managing some of the largest acquisitions and sell-side transactions in the East African region. Beatrice began her career in the Assurance department of PwC where she was involved in providing audit services to private and public sector clients across diverse sectors.

She holds an MBA with specialism in Finance from Edinburgh Business School – Heriot-Watt University, a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science (First Class Hons) from the University of Nairobi, a B.Sc. in Applied Accounting (First Class Hons) from Oxford Brookes University and is an ACCA affiliate.

Amos Gachuiri

Amos has over 18 years of experience across East Africa and in diverse areas including industry strategy, SME investing, portfolio management, finance, banking, business development, deal structuring, commercial & financial management, impact investing, risk management, team management, transactions support and audit across a wide range of industries including agriculture.

He is a qualified CPA and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK); Holds an MBA from ESMT Berlin, Germany (2010), a Diploma in Private Sector Growth: SIPU-Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), February 2014, Stockholm, Sweden; and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Option) from University of Nairobi (2001).

Before joining FSD Africa, Amos was a Senior Industry Manager at Msingi East Africa, where he worked on the development and implementation of industry transformation strategies through investment, technical advisory services, policy & regulatory reform, technology transfer, skills development, among others.

Amos started his career in August 2001 as an auditor at PwC. He later joined KPMGs Corporate Finance & Transactions Services unit as a manager in September 2006. He has served in investment roles at both GroFin and Grassroots Business Fund before joining Msingi East Africa in March 2017.

Amos serves on several boards in both public and private sectors.

Anne-Marie Chidzero

Anne-Marie is CIO of FSD Africa Investments, theinvestment arm of FSD Africa. A Zimbabwean, she is the former CEO of FSD Mozambique, and Co-founder of Alitheia IDF Managers, a private equity fund manager investing in women-led businesses.

Anne-Marie has a wealth of experience in building African financial markets. Across her career, she has led a range of development finance investments and implemented strategies for private sector growth, in roles at the World Bank Group, CGAP, and UK Aid – among other development finance institutions. She has held Board and Advisory positions at pioonering inclusive finance organisations in Africa.

Loreen Njeri

Loreen has been working as a Corporate Finance Analyst for BDO East Africa – Kenya where she was supporting clients in conducting business valuations and capital raising mandates. Her role involved creating financial models and transaction marketing documents such as information Memorandums and Teasers, approaching investors and facilitating client correspondence as well as supporting in Due diligence exercises. She has experience across sectors including: the Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment, Aviation, Real Estate and Construction material, Motor vehicle assembly, Agribusiness, and Manufacturing.

While at BDO, she also worked on the Manufacturing Africa project, funded by the FCDO, to provide deal support to companies in the Manufacturing sector in Africa. Her role involved supporting in deal origination, preparing Investment Committee documents and offering transaction support.

Prior to joining BDO, she interned with Dyer and Blair Investment Bank as a Research Analyst, at Hyman Capital, a boutique consulting firm based in London, as a Corporate Finance Analyst, in finance departments of Government institutions such as the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA), and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and at FIE Consult, a boutique consulting firm based in Nairobi, as a Business Analyst.

Loreen has Master’s degree in financial management from The University of Birmingham, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from Kenyatta University, and is currently pursuing her ACCA certification, with her key notable achievement being, attaining the highest mark in Kenya, in the ACCA Financial Management (F9) paper.
