FSD Africa initiated the BimaLab project in Nigeria to enable the insurance regulator to adopt practices and strategies that will provide insurtechs and innovators with an enabling environment for starting up ventures, training, mentorship and coaching. As a result, create policies and access to structures promoting partnership, and access to market/business for the innovations developed for the insurance industry.

Following the completion of the project, we have been conducting BimaLab community engagement with the alumni. In this regard, we have organised a webinar with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian BimaLab insurtechs to discuss regulatory sandbox. This follows the release of the regulator’s insurance regulatory sandbox operational guidelines in a strategic move to deepen insurance penetration and financial inclusion through innovation in the market.
